Last Thursday at the Athol Hall, two University of York instructors – Terrill Maguire and Carol Anderson – guided ten participants through a series of directed movement and writing practices, using themes of the body and the senses. Participants enjoyed a delightful potluck picnic lunch.

Some of the comments from this year’s participants:

“An inspiring experience, enlivening the body, mind and soul. Excellent choices of writing prompts for inspiration – revealing the exceptional writers in the group. The yoga was enough to keep us energized and the instruction was perfect for our day. Thank you for a great day!”
“Really felt the freedom to participate or not.  Your gentle encouragement was appreciated.”
“Very well balanced between movement and writing – excellent choice of postures; easy to follow writing directions, interesting key words and phrases, and images to engage the flow. Thank you!”YW_lunch

It was a fairy tale mash-up in the back yard of the Cherry Valley town hall on Saturday August 9th. A musical performance by Campfire Crew along with face painting by Emily and Stephanie set the mood for bringing back play in a fairy tale way. More than 60 playful participants enjoyed old-fashioned games, crafts, snacks and a special visit with Cinderella and Riding Hood (alias Donna and Carol from the Athol Recreation Committee).

Thanks to Donna Kaye and Carol King  the event organizers and all the volunteers.

Special thanks to everyone big and little who came out to PLAY!
