Joe Skratt from Picton took home the ‘Golden Paddle’ trophy and was crowned champ at Athol Rec’s first table tennis tournament on Saturday. Fourteen players battled it out, with Kato Wake and Joe playing off in the finals in a close and exciting game. Thanks to Cherry Valley sculptor/artist John McKinnon who made the trophy. Players from Wellington, Bloomfield, Picton and Cherry Valley enjoyed a fine lunch together and a great time was had by all. Players age ranged from 11 to 80 – how good is that?! Check out the photos.

An impressive number (25) attended our annual general meeting last Friday night, and several dozen more joined us for a wonderful potluck dinner, followed by our usual rip-roaring ‘games night’. Another great night in the Valley!

A highlight of the meeting was a slide show of last year’s many events. The executive was re-elected for another term: Kato Wake, chair, Susan Wallis, vice chair, Janet Davies, secretary and Lily Lee, treasurer. Thanks to all who came out, and special thanks to our fantastic committee. Here’s to another wonderful year!

Kato was surprised and delighted when John McKinnon and Glen Wallis awarded her The Phil Dodds Memorial award in recognition of Volunteer service to the community of Athol Township. A great honour, and well deserved.Image
