A sweet night was had by all who showed up to the Cherry Valley Strawberry Social last evening.  Locals and visitors alike enjoyed fresh local strawberries from Laundry Farms paired with home-baked goodies with dollops of  icecream.  There were even gluten-free and vegan options too!

As they say……. the proof is in the pudding or should we say cake?

Thank you to all our volunteers who hulled, (Cath, Janet, Glen, Wayne, Ann, and Donna), sold raffle tickets (thanks Michelle) baked (see blackboard above), served (see photo above), set up (thanks Wayne, Dylan and Glen) and to all who helped take down the event and clean up.

We are looking for volunteers to bake cakes, cupcakes, scones, anything that tastes good with strawberries and big scoop of ice cream for our strawberry social this Wednesday.  You can drop off your baked items to the hall in Cherry Valley on Wednesday, June 27th between noon- 3pm. or bring it with you when you attend the event starting at 5 pm!

We are also looking for hullers for Tuesday night June 26th starting at 7pm to help us hull the sweet, sweet strawberries from Laundry farms.

Success 5000 is an Edmonton-based duo specializing in musical comedy. They have toured the country, performed on CBC’s The Irrelevant Show, and been featured in comedy festivals such as Vancouver Sketchfest, Toronto Sketchfest, Philly Sketchfest, Seattle Sketchfest, Sled Island and Improvaganza. They have released two full-length comedy albums: a studio recording entitled Laughcore, and a live album, We’ll Fix It In Post, recorded at the Sewing Machine Factory in Edmonton. Self-described as “musical comedy that doesn’t suck,” their songs blend absurd humour with biting cynicism. Reviews have praised their show for its “self-depreciating, nihilistic, and sarcastic humour that’s both current and genuinely hilarious.”

Tonight- On Tuesday, June 12th at 7pm
the Athol Recreation Committee is hosting a Public Meeting
at the Town Hall in Cherry Valley, 1685 County Road 10.
The Meeting is to discuss the re-zoning of CherryVale Farm and future events on its land, with landowner David Raistrick, Athol ward councilor Jamie Forrester, and any concerned citizens interested in hearing more about the situation.

All are welcome!

The Recreation Committee is hosting this meeting to facilitate and encourage open dialogue in our community.

In preparation for the upcoming Strawberry Social (Date to be confirmed.) We are looking for bakers to donate pies, cakes, cupcakes, scones, anything that tastes good with a dollop of ice cream and fresh local strawberries.

                    Actual date will be chosen later this month depending on the local strawberry season.
