Many might have been watching the closing ceremonies of the Olympics yesterday basking in the glory of our Men’s Hockey Olympic Gold, others however were in the pursuit of another gold at our local Athol Recreation Centre in Cherry Valley. The Golden Hoot award that is.

- Mischievious John of Cherry Valley.
- Some serious contenders.
- Break between rounds for a pot luck lunch!
The excitement built slowly on Sunday during the Athol Recreation Centre’s 2nd annual Scrabble Tournament. The small, yet enthusiastic group began the first round of play putting the nimble minded Peta Shelton and Mary Brett into the lead. After a wonderful potluck lunch, things quickly changed with Scott Bailey of County Road 10 taking the tournament with a whopping 2nd game score of 261 points giving him a total winning score of 385. As you can see from the jubilant photo below Scott was as ecstatic as any Olympic Gold Medal winner. He did however take a moment from his rejoicing to snap a photo with our silver placed winner Peta Shelton of Picton and bronze winner Mary Brett of West Lake.
