The Athol Recreation Committee is organizing a bus trip to the

Stirling Theatre for the Naughty Pantomime,

the Three Musketeers on  Saturday Dec. 5th, 8 pm show.

See link for show details:
http://www.stirlingfestivaltheatre.com/product/the-three-musketeers/

For those who have not had the pleasure of attending a pantomime here is a brief description:

“Pantomime (informally panto) is a type of musical comedy stage production, designed for family entertainment. It was developed in England and is still performed there, generally during the Christmas and New Year season and, to a lesser extent, in other English-speaking countries. Modern pantomime includes songs, slapstick comedy and dancing, employs gender-crossing actors, and combines topical humour with a story loosely based on a well-known fairy tale. It is a participatory form of theatre, in which the audience is expected to sing along with certain parts of the music and shout out phrases to the performers.”

A bus from Franklin Coach lines (these are comfortable tour buses, NOT school buses) would be hired to pick up and drop off theatre goers at the Athol Recreation Centre in Cherry Valley at around 6pm (exact time to be confirmed),  a stop in Picton and a 3rd stop to be determined based on location of theatre goers (possibly Bloomfield or Rossmore).

The cost for the event would be $34 show ticket (group rate), $22 for the bus less $5 subsidized by the Athol Rec. Centre = $51 plus hst=  $57.63 (Round up to $58)

The bus holds 32 persons.

Festive snacks and treats  will be served on the bus  to and from the event.

Please contact Susan Wallis 613-476-2554 or email susanwallis@kos.net if interested. Please  indicate how many tickets you would like.

Tickets of $58\person would have to be paid for in full by October 31st.

Don’t miss this great event!!!!

FOOD to SHARE

11754261_522035227943626_871181570833373293_n

The Athol Recreation Centre Committee will be participating this fall in the FOOD to SHARE initiative started by our Chair, Glen Wallis.

Food to Share was begun this year, 2015, with an Awesome PEC grant of $1,000. The initiative attempts to bring attention to the fact that Prince Edward County ranks second for food insecurity in Ontario.

The concept is simple, take the bounty that is grown in what used to be the canning capital of Canada and produce prepared food that can be distributed through the food banks and other groups. The fresh produce would come from individuals who have gardens, farmers who have pledged to grow for the cause and local farms stands that have to much of a particular vegetable. The new Fresh for All initiative, which encourages people to grow an additional rows of vegetables for food banks and similar groups, would be a source of some additional food as well.

The fresh food would be collected for the cooking days that would be held at the different ward recreation hall kitchens and Church kitchens throughout the County. Some food would be received before the cooking days and would be cleaned, prepared and frozen for use on the cooking days. Volunteers would be used to collect the food used and take it to the central walk in freezer facility.

Ideally the majority of the food would be grown for harvest to coincide with the preparation days. Preparation days would be staggered between different venues so that the public would be able to choose a day to participate from a long list of dates.

Food to Share is looking for as many donations and as much sponsorship as possible. These include printing services, greenhouses to provide seedlings, seed suppliers, growers and farm stand owners, walk in freezer space, web designers, and restaurants and cafés willing to donate storage containers and provide recipes and food science knowledge.

Would you like to help? We need people to help grow, collect and cook the food we will be producing. Contact  Glen for more information at foodtosharepec@gmail.com.

Note:   This Thursday September 17th we are looking for volunteers to help pick tomatoes in Ameliasburgh.  Can you help?  Contact Glen directly at the email address above.

A note from Carrie:

Yoga is an exploration of self and I encourage my students to turn their attention inward to understand what is real for them in each moment.  I started practicing yoga in 1995 with the news of my first pregnancy. Looking for something that would stretch & strengthen my newly forming body, relax my mind and ease the anxiety of childbirth; yoga was the perfect fit.  Many years later, as a hatha yoga instructor, my vision is to create an open and safe environment in which new and experienced students can comfortably practice.
Students will learn to establish a rhythm using breath and movement while becoming aware of their bodies and creating stillness within their minds. Connecting with their inner messenger and learning how to nurture themselves.   Carrie
