The Bride's Bouquet  thumbnail 20x20 2012

Cherry Valley  encaustic artist  Susan Wallis will be speaking about the history of encaustic painting.  Come learn about this unusual medium.  Susan showcases her work in the County at Mad Dog Gallery and is on display throughout the Manse boutique hotel in Picton.  Her work is on display at galleries throughout Canada and in private and corporate collections in Canada and internationally.  Her paintings grace the pages of the Art of Herbs, the art\cookbook showcasing her herb inspired paintings with recipes by chef and food writer Cynthia Peters of From the Farm Cooking School.

This event is brought to you by the  lovely ladies of the Cherry Valley Women’s Institute.

The Cherry Valley Women’s Institute formed in Cherry Valley in 1908 and is one of the longest running organizations that has uses the town hall.  By 1921 the membership included 100 members.  The organization’s motto is “For Home and Country”.

This active organization over the years has served the community by building sidewalks and streetlights, sponsored school fairs, donated books and funds to the library, visited shut-ins, assisted fire victims, furnished rooms in both the old and new hospitals, sponsored 4h clubs, offered student bursaries, the list is endless.  The ever popular pie sale, craft show and ham suppers are also part of the this branch’s mandate both past and present.  The Cherry Valley W.I. are proud to be part of the Associated County of Women of the World which is recognized by the United Nations and comprises of almost 10 million women in 69 countries.

The mysterious mermaid of East Lake is back! Freida roams the icy surface of East Lake throughout the winter months, longing for the ice to melt so she can return to the lake.

Freida has been seen by many a fisherman over the years, but has never been caught.

Participate in our 50-50 draw – guess what day and time the ice will melt on East Lake, to allow Freida to return her watery home! 

Tickets: $2 each or 3 for $5! 

Tickets are available at the following locations:

The Store in Cherry Valley (old variety store) on County road 18

The Cherry Valley Restaurant 1533 County Road 10

and at all Athol Recreation Centre events.
